Retarget Website Visitors With Intent on DelivrDSP

Push the website visitors who are also researching a topic to a DelivrDSP campaign, refreshed every day

Use Case

  • Cross-sell: a visitor to Brand A's site who is researching Product B goes into a Product B campaign instead of a generic Brand A retargeting campaign
  • Retarget only the visitors who are in market for what you sell
  • Leave out visitors you don't want to pay to reach (existing customers, for example)

You build this from two things you already have: your pixel's identified visitors and an intent audience. A daily export filters the visitors by the intent audience and adds the result to a DelivrDSP list attached to your campaign.

Prerequisites

  • The Delivr pixel installed on the site and identifying visitors.
  • An intent audience with the topics (and, optionally, the minimum intent score) you want to target (Create an Intent Audience).
  • A DelivrDSP connection in the project (Activate an Audience to DelivrDSP covers setting it up).
  • A DelivrDSP campaign in the same project that has finished syncing, if you want the list attached to it automatically.

Steps

1. Start a Website Visitors Export

In the dashboard, open Exports and create a new export. Under the data source, choose Website visitors, then pick your pixel. Keep Identified people only on.

2. Filter by the Intent Audience

Under Filter by Audiences or Lists (Optional), select your intent audience and leave it set to Include. Only visitors who are also in that audience go to the list.

You can add up to 10 audiences or lists:

  • Set a filter to Exclude to leave its members out, for example an audience of current customers.
  • With two or more include filters, Combine with chooses whether a visitor must be in any of them or in all of them.

3. Send It to DelivrDSP

Choose your DelivrDSP Connection, then:

SettingWhat to pick
Export ModeIncremental rebuilds the list each run from visitors seen within the Lookback Window (Days) who are in the audience now, so people who leave the audience or stop visiting come off the list. Cumulative keeps adding new matching visitors and never removes anyone.
HEM ScopeAll profile HEMs (the default) checks every hashed email on the visitor's profile against your audience filters and sends the ones that pass, for the most reach. Matched HEM only checks just the one captured on your site.
Attach to campaignYour campaign. The list stays attached to it as it updates each run.

4. Schedule It Daily

Set Frequency to daily and save. Each run reads the intent audience's latest membership. With Incremental, the list follows the audience as people move in and out of market. With Cumulative, new matches are added but people who leave the audience stay on the list.

Using the API

Audience filters are part of the export's query when you create it with POST /api/v1/exports. Each filter names one audience (or one list of hashed emails):

{
  "query": {
    "sourceType": "pixel",
    "sourceId": "YOUR_PIXEL_ID",
    "audienceFilters": [
      { "audienceId": "YOUR_INTENT_AUDIENCE_ID", "mode": "include", "hemFormat": "sha256_lc" },
      { "audienceId": "YOUR_CUSTOMER_AUDIENCE_ID", "mode": "exclude", "hemFormat": "sha256_lc" }
    ],
    "audienceFilterLogic": "or"
  }
}
FieldWhat it does
audienceId / listIdThe audience or hashed-email list to filter by. Set exactly one.
modeinclude (default) or exclude.
hemFormatHow emails are hashed for matching. sha256_lc (default) matches Delivr audiences.
audienceFilterLogicor (default) or and, for combining include filters. Exclude filters always remove a hashed email that is in any of them.

Audience filters only apply to pixel (sourceType: pixel) exports. Attaching the list to a campaign is set in the dashboard.

Notes

  • Filters match one hashed email at a time. A visitor's email is sent when it is in an include audience and not in an exclude audience. Other emails on the same profile that aren't in the audience are left out.
  • The intent audience doesn't need to be exported or downloaded first. The export reads its membership on every run.
  • An empty filtered list on a day with few visitors is normal. The list grows as more visitors match.
